Sly Stone Skips Court Date Due To Heart Problems

Funk legend Sly Stone was forced to skip a court hearing on Friday after he was hospitalized with heart problems.
The reclusive Sly and the Family Stone frontman is facing a charge of cocaine possession stemming from an arrest in April. Stone was a passenger in a pal’s car when police pulled them over for a minor traffic violation. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up the illegal substance.
The veteran singer, real name Sylvester Stewart, was due to appear before a Los Angeles judge to answer the count on Friday morning, but his lawyer James Silverstein turned up without Stone and explained his client had been taken ill. The judge postponed the hearing and ordered the 68 year old to return to court on Wednesday. However, Silverstein is confident Stone will not face prosecution because he is adamant the drug was not his.
He tells TMZ.com, “The evidence is clear that the vehicle was not his. I believe that this case his highly defensible, and Stewart should never had charges filed against him. We firmly believe the DA (District Attorney) will lose this case at trial without us having to put on one witness.”
Britney Spears ‘Not Competent’ To Testify In Court

Britney Spears‘ lawyers have determined the pop star is not legally competent to testify in court over a perfume deal dispute. Bosses at Brand Sense Partners are suing the singer for $10 million, claiming she double-crossed them by trying to cut them out of a lucrative deal with Elizabeth Arden.
They want Spears to take the stand in court, but her legal team insists she is not competent enough to be deposed. Brand Sense Partners bosses have asked the judge in the case to order Spears to sit for the deposition, according to TMZ.com.
Roseanne Barr Fighting For Sole Custody Of Son

Roseanne Barr is reportedly launching a legal battle to gain sole custody of her teenage son.
The actress is currently embroiled in a court dispute with her ex-husband Ben Thomas, who claims she reneged on a promise to fly him out to her home in Hawaii to visit their 15-year-old son, Buck.
The case has gone to trial at Los Angeles County Superior Court and Barr’s attorneys announced during a hearing on Thursday that they are in the process of filing for “sole legal and physical custody” of Buck, according to TMZ.com.
The website reports the legal process will begin once the legal tussle between Barr and Thomas is concluded.
Brandi Glanville Pleads No Contest To DUI

Brandi Glanville, the ex-wife of Country singer LeAnn Rimes’ fiance Eddie Cibrian, pleaded “no contest” to drunk driving in court on Friday, according to TMZ.com. Glanville was arrested in October after traffic cops in Los Angeles found her behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level higher than the legal limit.
The website reports Glanville was sentenced to 36 months probation, three months of alcohol education courses, and a $390 fine. Glanville and Cibrian split after the actor and Rimes confessed to having an affair while they filmed a TV show together. After a two-year war of words in the media, Rimes and Glanville recently agreed to be civil and stop attacking each other online.
Jay-Z Close To Settling Bar Lawsuit With David Ortiz

Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z is a step closer to ending his lawsuit with baseball star David Ortiz after their legal teams agreed on a settlement deal. The 99 Problems hit-maker took court action against the sportsman, nicknamed Big Papi, over the Boston Red Sox star’s Forty-Forty club in his native Dominican Republic and the website used to promote the venue.
The rapper demanded $5 million, claiming Ortiz copied the name of his 40/40 bar in New York City, and the pair’s lawyers were due to hold a case conference at Manhattan Federal Court on Tuesday – but a deal is now on the horizon. Jay-Z’s lawyer Peter Raymond tells the New York Daily News, “The case has been settled in principle. We have agreed on the outlines of a settlement and need to reduce it to writing.”
